Shooting SS17 #BTS

A CITY ROSE.

Picking a location was easy. With the #regalrosestudio located on the outskirts of London, we decided upon one of our favourite areas; Shoreditch. The diverse options of backdrops meant we could have a good search for the perfect place to really set off the colour and styles in the collection.

It's never straight forward to shoot on an outside location. Apart from walking around as a team of 'bag people'; carrying everything from ladders, cameras, tripods to a whole wardrobe of clothes, stack of make-up and collection of emergency jewellery pliers, there's also the problem of keeping a half dressed model warm who's dressed for the height of summer! Poor girl. Luckily we were kindly given a room at The Hoxton Hotel to get hair and make-up complete before we headed outside. BIG thanks to The Hoxton!

The face of our new SS17 collection. Angelina Jesson from Premier Model Management had the ideal look we wanted to complement the collection. Fresh faced with a grungy vibe, we went with a sultry smoky eye and thick dark glossy lip. Perfecto.

We had the amazing Nikki on board for make-up and also her wonderful assistant. A talented duo who's efforts were second to none. Nikki hand painted the delicate tattoo inspired shoulder rose you can see throughout the campaign imagery.

And so we got to work. Shooting against soft greys and hard surfaces whilst searching for abstract backgrounds of distorted patterns and decaying vintage paint work.

On hair we had the lovely Charlie Wilkinson. Talented with a great eye for detail, Charlie took Angelina's hair to the next level with a quirky, textured yet subtle feel.

And last but not least! Photographer Marc Hayden shot and edited the shoot. Marc's unique style of photography and editing was perfect for the City Rose campaign. And his experience in shooting in the City was a big plus!

Styling by twin sisters Rebecca & Louisa who co-founded Regal Rose Jewellery and also design the seasonal collections! (and everything else in-between)

Cleaning & Caring for Sterling Silver Jewellery

Cleaning & Caring for Sterling Silver Jewellery.

If you haven't already, we recommend you read our last blog post; The 'Green Finger Myth'. This helps explain why Sterling Silver rings can make your finger green.

It is important to note that all jewellery made from Sterling Silver will tarnish to some degree. It is not a manufacturing fault. The next thing you will need to know is what to do if your finger (or ring) does turn green. But first, to help avoid the speed at which tarnishing happens, keep reading for some helpful care tips...

How do I avoid my Sterling Silver rings from tarnishing so quickly and often?

1. AVOID WATER.
When we say water, we basically mean any liquid. These include chemicals like bleach, chlorine in swimming pools and salt water (like the sea!). Hairspray, perfume, moisturisers and cosmetics are all liquids that should be kept away from your Sterling Silver rings.

2. CLEAN OFTEN
We recommend using a polishing cloth regularly to prevent the natural process of tarnishing. If your ring does not contain a gemstone(s), clean your ring using warm soapy water and a soft brush. If your ring does contain a gemstone(s), avoid covering your ring in water and just use a small soft brush with soapy water. We do not recommend the use of silver polish and silver dip as it can destroy any delicate oxidised details of your ring.

3. TAKE OFF AT BEDTIME
This is because we all sweat. Make it a habit to take off all your rings before bed! We also recommend taking your rings off when exercising for the same reasons.

4. STORAGE
Never store your jewellery in the  humidity of your bathroom.  Jewellery should be stored away from natural sunlight and heat. Your ring should be stored in the plastic zip lock bag it was supplied in.

My finger has gone green, what should I do?

Take off your ring and refer to point 2 above. Next, you'll need to run yourself a little finger bath. Warm soapy water and a soft scrubbing brush should do the trick! If it still won't budge, try the below...

1. WATERPROOF EYE MAKEUP REMOVER

2. ALCOHOL CLEANSING WIPES

Green Finger Myth

Are you partial to a little green finger?

FEAR NOT! You have not just been conned into buying a fake ring. Nor are you a green monster.

Many people think that your finger (or ring) turns green because it is not real silver. This is not the case. In fact, the opposite is true! Sterling Silver rings can turn your finger green because of the moisture (including water, sweat or humidity!) in the skin, causing a chemical reaction with the alloys in the Silver.

Some people will react more than others. This is simply due to the fact of 'human-ness' and different levels of moisture and acidity in the skin varies from one person to the next. So don't freak! You're not a green monster. Nor do you have to stop wearing Silver!!

Other acids that can cause tarnish and oxidisation are also found in the air, water, soaps and body lotion. Stay tuned for our next blog post on 'How to clean and care for your silver jewellery'
